The High Cost of Owning in Texas
-- Posted: April 06,2007 | Brian Varvel
As if Texas property owners needed any more poking and prodding to prompt them to demand property tax reforms, here's a sobering chart to illustrate just how damaging the overtaxed Texas property owner truly is. Consider this, in Texas - this $189,000 home would cost approximately $1722 / month to finance. If we took that same home, and financed it in Florida, the monthly payment would drop to $1293 / month. Just food for thought.
How do Texas property taxes stack up against other states?
Annual property tax for homes valued at $189,000
| Texas | Florida | Indiana | |
| Price: | $189,000 | $189,000 | $189,000 |
| Taxes: | $6020.00 | $876.00 | $1831.00 |
| Monthly: | $501.67 | $72.25 | $152.58 |
| House: | 4 / 2.5 / 3095 SF | 3 / 2 / 1847 SF | 3 / 2 / 2214 SF |
